With a strong resemblance to the Troika wheel vase, the front face of this top-quality vintage Swedish art glass vase features a frosted rectangular slab that is raised from the background "broken-ice" textured surface and has a clear bubble-shaped indentation at one end. The side and rear surfaces as well as the main body, meanwhile, are heavy and solid crystal clear glass, with overall dimensions of 12 x 11 x 3.5cm (4.75 x 4.25 x 1.5 inches).
Typical of the high quality of glassware produced in Sweden during the second half of the twentieth century, the piece was made by Uno Westerberg at the Pukeberg glassworks in the late 1960s. The vase is illustrated on page 30 of Nigel Benson's "Glass of the 50's and 60's", where the author comments that the design is far more abstract than many other glass works of the time and demonstrates awareness of the work of major artists of the period.
