This plump little vase was produced in the 1950's or 60's by one of the many small art potteries that existed in Italy and the Republic of San Marino and whose colourful ceramics were influenced by Fantoni, Picasso and Matisse. The work of these studios was characterised by scraffito outlining and the combining of multiple textures ranging from smooth unglazed surfaces to coarse volcanic lava-like finishes, together with the use of wet-look high-gloss enamel glazes, especially deep blood-red cadmium-selenium.
This particular vase features the volcanic lava-like texturing and a Fantoni-like 1950's/60's girl in scrafitto outline, framed by the characteristic glossy red enamel glazing. The vase stands 10.5cm (4.25 inches) tall, has diameter of approximately 8cm (3.25 inches) and is in excellent condition.
