A vintage 50's modern style ceramic table lamp hand-made in Italy for Febland |
||
|
In the late 50's the UK-based company Febland began to import avante garde ceramic items from the Fantoni-influenced art potteries of Italy. The experiment lasted a couple of years, but Febland found that the UK market was not ready for such modern pieces, and reverted to its original business dealing in Capodimonte figurines. This stylish three-legged table lamp is one of the modernist Febland imports that did find a home in the UK. The lamp's unusual form is functional as well as decorative, the sweeping tapered front protecting the user from glare while the cutaway back ensures that effective lighting is achieved. The light has been rewired at some point and has a modern UK-type three-pin plug on a long flex measuring a little under 3 metres (115 inches). The lamp stands 26.5cm (10.5 inches) tall and is perfectly balanced on its elegant glossy black-glazed ceramic legs. It is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing, and is marked underneath "Febland B126 Italy." |
