This star-shaped bright orange lacquered steel pendant light appears to embody the space-age style of the late 60s and early 70s, but in fact it was designed for Nordisk Solar Compagni in the very early 60s by Danish architects Niels Esmann & Hans C Jensen, and in April 1963 it featured in a room setting in Danish homestyle magazine Bo Bedre (pictured below).
This extremely rare vintage example of the light has never been used and is in mint condition, the orange paintwork as glossy as the day it left the factory. It has a height of approximately 24cm (9.5 inches) and a diameter of 18cm (7 inches). The original Nordisk Solar Compagni label is still present, as is the specially-designed Nordisk Solar bulb-holder – marked with the company's name around the rim – and matching orange electric cable.
UK-based buyers should note that this is a vintage Danish light and therefore has two-core wiring and bulb-holder rather than the three-core set-up required for mains-installed metal lights under UK regulations. We usually automatically convert our vintage lights for UK-based buyers, but the special rarity, style and condition of the fittings on this light mean that we will leave them intact unless the buyer specifically requests us to change them.
