An original vintage 1950's-60's Danish design pendant lamp by Vitrika in the style of a vampire bat |
||
|
Looking like a vampire bat – or perhaps a hybrid cross between Darth Vader and a Dalek – this unusual pendant light was made in Denmark during the 50's or 60's and is believed to have been produced by Danish lighting company Vitrika. The light's cone-like core has three rectangular windows which are cloaked by the three strong matte black shields that give the lamp its bat-like appearance. These shields, with their elegant tapering corners and arching lines, have deep magenta-red inner faces which reflect light from the bulb back onto the shiny core cone, turning its pale pink-copperish surface livid red and completing the vampire bat-like appearance. The lamp has a maximum diameter of 21cm (8.25 inches) and a height of 32cm (12.5 inches) and is in good condition with only light signs of age and previous use.
