This original 1960s Søværnspendel ceiling light, a timeless classic designed by legendary Sydney Opera House architect Jørn Utzon, is in excellent condition, and its bright lipstick-red paintwork is intact and has lost none of its lustre. The unusual matte eggshell-textured ivory-coloured surfaces are also in excellent condition, with only one or two light marks to bear witness to their vintage character. The light has a diameter of 28cm (11 inches) and a height of 23cm (9 inches).
The Søværnspendel was produced by top Danish lighting company Louis Poulsen in various colours at different periods between the late 1950s and the 1970s. Versions in red, black and aquamarine were produced during the very late 1960s as part of Poulsen's Young Line range, in which a number of Poulsen lights, including Verner Panton's Topan and Flower Pot lamps, were offered in a coordinated selection of colours. The Young Line range can be seen in the 1969 Louis Poulsen advert reproduced in the final image below.
