These unusual, robust and extremely high-quality ufo-style lights were created for Danish lighting company Fog & Morup in the late 1960s or early 1970s by the architect Hans Due. Entitled Optima, they were produced as pendant ceiling lights in three sizes with diameters of 60cm, 50cm and 20cm respectively, and in three colours: white, yellow and dark brown.
The range also encompassed a desk lamp, which we do not have available, and a standard lamp, which we have available in brown in single-lamp and double-lamp versions. The final picture below has been reproduced from a 1973 Fog & Morup advertisement for the Optima range.
The Optima range received widespread acclaim upon its launch and won a Formes Utiles award in Paris for its high lighting quality, excellent design and outstanding technical quality. Founded in 1930 by the UAM (l'union des Artistes Modernes), the Formes Utiles award recognises products that achieve "beauty through the perfect balance between function, structure and form".
