Retro 60's Nord-Lite pendant ceiling lights designed by Sven Middelboe and produced by Audiola for Danish lighting company Nordisk Solar Compagni

These unusual and brightly coloured retro modern plastic pendant lights were manufactured in the 60's for Danish lighting company Nordisk Solar Compagni by Audiola, a radio manufacturer with special expertise in plastics. The lights, entitled Nord-Lite, were designed by Sven Middelboe (aka Svend Middelboe), now best known for his timeless Verona pendant light which was also designed for the (now defunct) Nordisk Solar Compagni and is still in production by other companies today more than 40 years on.

During the 50's and 60's Nordisk Solar's lighting was designed by an illustrious line of architects who in addition to Sven Middelboe included Max Bruel, Count Sigvard Bernadotte, Acton Bjorn, Jorgen Hoj, and Jorn Utzon who also created the Sydney Opera House. Many examples of these designers' work for Nordisk Solar appear in the Taschen Decorative Arts 50's and 60's books.
