This very rare Danish layered ceiling light design is previously unknown to us, but its extremely high-quality construction indicates that it was produced by one of that country's top lighting manufacturers in the 1950s or 1960s.
The solid copper layers and cap are shiny and luminescent but do show some age-related streaking and spotting. The central ivory-coloured section is, however, virtually perfect, and in this context the patination of the copper sections merely adds textural interest, in particular when the lamp is lit, when these sections take on the appearance of patinated wood. Diffusers at top and bottom ensure a complete lack of glare from the light, which has a diameter of 24cm (9.5 inches) and a height to the top of the copper cap of 19.5cm (7.75 inches).
