An original vintage 70s retro space-age JVC Nivico Videosphere space helmet television

This original space-age JVC Nivico Videosphere monochrome (black & white) television was produced in the early 1970s and is still in working order. There is a scratch across the black plexiglass screen cover (which can be seen most clearly in the first large image below), but otherwise the set is in excellent condition. Indeed, it is an exceptionally rare example of this highly collectible item, in that there is none of the usual yellowing to the white plastic casing.

The ball-shaped television can be swivelled in any direction or even lifted right off its square base and hung from its chunky chain handle for true retro space-age style (see final image below). The set was manufactured at the Yokohama Plant Victor Compay of Japan Ltd and the model number is 3240SC. It has a height of 34cm (13.5 inches) on its stand and a diameter of 29cm (11.5 inches).

There are controls for on/off, volume, contrast, brightness, tuning, horizontal hold, vertical hold and picture height. The built-in telescopic antenna can be augmented by VHF or UHF ariels and there is a socket for an earpiece. It uses a 220v/50Hz/21w power source, and comes with its original electric lead and european-style two-pin plug, but also has a separate power socket allowing it to be run from a 12v DC source.
