This vintage midcentury modern shag-pile rya rug was made by hand in the late 1950s or early 1960s, and its bold abstract design is very much in the style of contemporary fine art of the period. The rug is believed to be Danish or Swedish in origin.
The rya's design is focused around a heart of vivid and fiery autumn-leaf rusts and oranges, framed by grassy greens on one side and forest floor-like colours and textures on the other. The rug has been hand woven in 100 per cent wool and measures 120 x 178cm (47.25 x 70 inches). It is in very good condition.
