 This vividly colourful pure wool vintage Ege Rya rug retains its original label on the reverse side. This reveals that its bold psychedelic design is entitled Shantung and that the rug is part of the company's top-quality Ege Rya de Luxe range. The rug's predominant colour is an exceptionally rich and vibrant kingfisher blue, together with deep purple, midnight blue and indigo in a pale sea blue background.
Measuring 95 x 160cm (37.5 x 63 inches), the rug is in near mint condition and its dense, heavy pure wool pile still has all its virgin newness. Indeed, the only sign that it didn't leave the factory yesterday (other than the fact that production of Ege Rya de Luxe rugs ceased in the early 1970s) is a slight colour fade to the tips of the pale sea blue wool strands, visible upon close inspection. This has been caused by exposure to light and is always seen in vintage Ege Ryas in this pale blue colour, which is particularly sensitive to light exposure. The other colours are completely unaffected and are startling in their rich and vivid intensity.
