A vintage mid-60's pure wool shag-pile rya rug entitled Sunbeam 40 by Ege Rya of Denmark

This pure wool rya rug was produced in the mid-1960's by Ege Rya and retains its original label on the reverse side. Although we purchased the rug in Denmark, it would appear that this particular example was originally intended for export, since the label also carries the legend "Made in Denmark by Scandinavian Folklore Carpets aps" in a reference to the branding under which many Ege Rya rugs were exported during the 50's, 60's and 70's, especially to the United States.

The label also tells us that the rug belongs to the Ege Vanguard range of ryas, that the design is called Sunbeam 40, and that the 100 per cent pure wool pile is, like all Ege ryas, both colourproof and mothproof. The rug's abstract design is rendered in a range of strong but muted colours, from brick, khaki and tan to fawn, grey, beige and cream. It measures 95 x 160cm (37 x 63 inches) and is in very good condition.
