A large original 1960's pure wool shag pile circular Ege de luxe Danish rya in kingfisher blue and sea green

This large and heavy 1960's circular Ege Rya de luxe rug has a dense pure wool shag pile with an even mix of kingfisher blue and blueish sea green strands. The effect of this mix is rich and vividly colourful and gives the rug considerably more depth and texture than a single flat colour would do.

The circular Ege Rya de luxe ryas were made in two sizes and this is the two-metre diameter version. In practice the rugs are always slightly elliptical rather than perfectly circular in shape, and the actual diameter of this rug ranges from 188 to 204cm (74 to 80 inches). On the reverse side a small repair has been made to the stitched woollen binding (see last picture below). The rug is in excellent condition and there is no fading or wear.
