A vintage 50's or early 60's pure wool Ege Rya rug with a midcentury modern linear geometric design in greens and blues

This vintage pure wool Ege rug still has its original leather tag attached to the reverse side by a string and a small lead seal (see second large picture below). The rug has a pure wool backing, which dates it prior to the mid-1960's when Ege started to use a rayon and polypropylene backing for its pure wool-pile rugs.

The rug has an abstract linear geometric design in a midcentury modern palette of blues ranging from various shades of light sky blue through kingfisher and royal blue to dark midnight blue, along with forest green and emerald. It measures 95 x 160cm (38 x 63 inches). The rug is in very good condition and the colours are still very strong, although the pale sky blue sections, which are always most vulnerable to light exposure, have been slightly discoloured at the tips by the sun so that a slightly darker shade of blue can be seen at the roots when the strands are parted.
