A small vintage 1960s semi-abstract pure wool Danish shag-pile rug by Ege Rya

This original 1960s Danish rya rug has a semi-abstract design in the style of a cave painting of a man riding what looks like a giraffe but is probably meant to be a horse. The pure wool shag pile rug has lost its original label from the reverse side, but the characteristic weave, backing and binding indicate that it was manufactured by the Ege Rya company of Denmark.

Machine woven in pure wool in a spectrum of reds from claret and burgundy through scarlet, pillar box red and dark orange to light coral, the rug measures 70cm square (27.5 inches) and is in excellent condition.
