An original early 1960s orange Ege Rya Karelia rug designed and made in Denmark

This vintage 1960s pure wool shag pile rya rug was produced by the leading Danish carpetmaker of the period, Ege Rya. The classic midcentury modern pattern is entitled Karelia, and the design is illustrated in Madeleine Marsh’s collectors’ resource book Miller’s Collecting the 1960s. Machine woven in multiple vibrant tones of orange and rich egg-yolk yellow with its abstract tiki-style motif design rendered in dark brown and terracotta, the rug measures 70 x 110cm (27.5 x 43.25 inches) and is in very good condition.
