A hand-stitched pure wool shag pile 60s/70s Cum Rya rug with vividly colourful abstract design

The Cum Rya rug company of Copenhagen produced a wide range of top-quality rya kits which were extremely popular during the 60's and 70's both in Denmark and the United States, where many kits were exported. Cum Rya had an extensive catalogue of rya designs by 16 artists with backgrounds in various different media, including Ole Schwalbe, Mogens Andersen and Robert Jacobsen.

This particular hand-made Cum Rya has a lively abstract design vividly executed in purples and blues, reds and oranges. The rug measures 75 x 150cm (29.5 x 59 inches) not counting the tassels, and 75 x 180cm (29.5 x 70.75 inches) including the tassels. Both rug and tassels are in very good condition.
