A vintage deep shag-pile Scandinavian midcentury modern rya rug produced by Ege Rya of Denmark in the early 1960s

Although it no longer has its label, this rich and warmly coloured shag-pile rya rug can be identified as a genuine vintage Danish modern Ege Rya and dated with some precision to the early 1960s, since advertisements for the rug in various colourways were being run in the leading Danish homestyle magazine from as early as October 1963. The abstract swirling vortex design of the rug is rendered in our example in a rich palette of egg-yolk yellow, orange, ginger, rust and brown. Measuring 96 x 160cm (38 x 63 inches), the rug is in excellent condition.
