Screenprinted Danish design peacock wall hanging by Sodahl

Produced in the 1960's and 1970's by Sodahl Design A/S, the Danish textiles company founded in 1963 by artist and designer Hans-Jürgen Schöbel as a vehicle for his own artworks, these vintage screen-printed hessian/jute wall hangings have become increasingly rare in recent years. This particular Schöbel art textile is a large example, in mint condition with no damage or fading. The art nouveau revival-style artwork has been screenprinted in a warm spectrum of oranges, reds, browns and metallic gold, onto a jute-polyester mix hessian-like textile panel which measures 75 x 111cm (29.5 x 43.75 inches) and is finished on all sides. The work carries the Sodahl Design monogram towards the bottom right corner. Slots along the top and bottom edges of the textile are designed to allow wooden or metal rods (not supplied) to be inserted for hanging.
