A set of 1960's–1970's geometric pop-art screenprinted tableware textiles by Sodahl of Denmark

Produced in the 1960's to early 1970's by Sodahl Design A/S, the Danish textiles company founded in 1963 by artist and designer Hans-Jürgen Schöbel, it is rare to find these vintage hessian (jute) tablemats in unused mint condition. This is one such set.

The set comprises five identical oval placemats each measuring 31 x 45cm (12.25 x 17.75 inches). The Panton-like geometric pop-art design has been screenprinted in navy, royal blue, kingfisher and turquoise. There is a narrow 7mm (0.25 inch) band of royal blue cotton piping around the outside edge of each mat, and all have labels reading “Sodahl 60 per cent jute 40 per cent polyester. Made in Denmark.”
