Georg Jensen Damask 1970s op art table place mats purple
These three tablemats were made in the 1970s and measure approximately 31 x 45 cm and are offered together as a single set in excellent condition. The geometric op art design is woven into the textile so appears on both front and reverse sides. The mats no longer have their original labels, but examples in our own collection retain theirs and reveal that they were made in Denmark by Georg Jensen Damask.
Georg Jensen Damask adverts from the 1970s tell us that "the experience of craftsmen during more than 400 years has been united with latest techniques and close collaboration with some of the best Danish artists to produce high quality household linen". Artists who worked with Georg Jensen Damask during this period are Arne Jacobsen, Bent Georg Jensen, Puk Lippmann, Nanna Ditzel, Diana Holstein and Bodil Bødtker-Naess, who is believed to have been the designer of these placemats.
