Central industrial pendant light by Jo Hammerborg for Fog & Mørup, 1967
Central industrial pendant light by Jo Hammerborg for Fog & Mørup, 1967
Designed in 1967 with a diameter of 22.5cm and height of 31.5cm, the Central is a member of Jo Hammerborg's Saturn series – a collection of lights in which Hammerborg, Fog & Mørup's head of design, explored the art of balance and proportion in form through a structure of two concentric cylindrical bands in many different variations of height and width.
The chunky proportions of the Central give it a more industrial character than other lights in the Saturn series, while the interior face colours of the outermost cylindrical bands – designed to reflect colour onto the outer surfaces of the inner cylindrical bands when the lamp is lit – include turquoise, blue and red variations in keeping with the psychedelic space-age aesthetic of 1967. The original F&M catalogue image reproduced here illustrates the whole Central range.
This particular Central has a turquoise reflecting band and is in very good condition with general light wear commensurate with its age and previous use (see images). It takes a standard Edison screw bulb max 100w (not included.)
