Gemini candle holders by Peter Karpf for Lundtofte
Peter Karpf designed his Gemini candleholders in 1965, and it has been said that he created them from steel tubing left over from making a chair. In the late 60s they were showcased at the Earls Court International Furniture Show as part of the Danish Home display, conceived by Kirsten Bjerregaard, editor of Design from Scandinavia, on behalf of the Danish Furniture Manufacturers' Association. The Geminis are back in production today by Lassen Tableware, but this is a rare original vintage pair produced by Lundtofte and marked to that effect (see close-up images). Both versions are made of solid stainless steel, but there are differences in weight and dimension – these original Lundtofte Geminis weigh 565g each (the new Lassen version weighs 520g) and have a height of 118mm (cf 115mm), a width of 133mm (cf 110mm) and take a candle with a diameter of 12mm (cf 13mm).
