Nordisk Solar Compagni Minisol pendant lights

Throughout its heyday in the 1950s and 1960s, Danish lighting manufacturer Nordisk Solar Compagni commissioned a small number of prominent architects and designers to produce its lighting designs. These included Max Brüel, Jørgen Kastholm and Preben Fabricius, Acton Bjørn, Sigvard Bernadotte, Sven (aka Svend) Middelboe and Jørn Utzon – who later and most famously designed the Sydney Opera House. This particular Nordisk Solar Compagni production was designed in the 60s by K Kewo, and took advantage of the company's access to expertise in moulding plastics – a speciality of their sister 1-producing business, Audiola. Entitled Minisol, the colourful retro-style light in robust and chunky ABS plastic is similar in style and scale to Panton's Flowerpot, with a diameter of 23cm (9 inches) and a height of 19cm (7.5 inches).
