Tunika pendant light by Jo Hammerborg for Fog & Morup, early 1960s

Tunika was one of Jo Hammerborg's earliest lamp designs, first appearing in a magazine advert in 1961, and was an early member of his Saturn series in which he explored a concentric cylindrical lamp form across a variety of proportions in height and width. The series was also an exercise in harnessing the ability of light to bounce between matte and reflective surfaces to create a cosy fireside glow in the Danish tradition of hygge.

Made of solid copper, the Tunika measures 25 cm in height and 17.5 cm in diameter, and has a spun copper exterior on the inner cylinder which picks up and amplifies the matte orange interior of the outer cylinder. The lamp takes a standard E27 Edison screw bulb max 75w (not supplied) and is in excellent condition with a little patination to the spun copper commensurate with the lamp's age (see photos).
