Swedish hessian table runner with flower motif

Purchased by us in Karlskoga, Sweden, this colourful vintage jute and polyester mix textile features a classic Swedish midcentury modern semi-abstract flower design in turquoise blue, aubergine, mauve, deep purple and forest green on a vibrant eau de nil background. Measuring 37 x 99cm (14.5 x 39 inches), the textile was intended as a table or sideboard runner but could equally well be framed and displayed on a wall, either lengthways or widthways – it looks good in all four orientations. The two long sides are hemmed, while the shorter edges have been left open and stitched with zigzag to make a tiny fringe. The textile is in excellent condition.
