Strehla vintage fat lava dumpy blue cube vase

This vintage blue cube-shaped ceramic vase was made by Strehla in the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) in the 1960s or 1970s. Measuring 8 x 8 x 8cm (3 x 3 x 3 inches), the dumpy vase is designed primarily to hold a block of oasis foam as the basis for a flower arrangement, but is also suitable for displaying an informal posy of short-stemmed flowers. The cobalt blue underglaze is hand-painted on opposite sides with a geometric design of rectangles in a metallic black glaze and on the other two sides with a random smattering of the same black glaze in the fat lava style characteristic of German ceramic art of this period. The vase is stamped with the Strehla logo on the base and is in perfect condition.
