Red Utzon Pendel designed by Jørn Utzon for Nordisk Solar Compagni, 1950s
Danish architect Jørn Utzon (1918–2008) is best known as the designer of Sydney Opera House, but he also designed a number of lights that have had an equally enduring appeal, amongst them the Utzon Pendel, created in the early 1950s. A Danish magazine pictured Utzon at home in 1955 with a cluster of Utzon Pendels in different sizes (see photos above). Measuring 20 cm in diameter and 22 cm in height, this Utzon Pendel in shiny bright pillar box red is a vintage production from the light's original producer Nordisk Solar Compagni and retains its original bulbholder impressed with the company's name. The lamp is in excellent condition with one small scrape to the paintwork (see photos). It takes a standard Edison screw lightbulb max 60w (not supplied).
