Påfugl (Peacock) art light for the wall designed by Bent Karlby for Lyfa, 1970s

Like many of Bent Karlby's designs of this period, the Påfugl is an artwork at least as much as it is a lighting fixture – indeed, the original advertising described it as a relief in a reference to its sculptural qualities. Measuring 27cm in diameter with a projection of 11cm, the Påfugl comprises a series of circular metal plates in rainbow/peacock colours which stand just far apart from one another to allow light to stream through the layers when the bulb is lit. The lamp is in very good condition with some discolouration to the cream back section and a little oxidation to the underside of some of the plates which is not visible when the layers are mounted (see images). It takes a small Edison screw golfball bulb max 40w and is fitted with a European-style two-pin plug. The original Lyfa labels are still in place.
