Verner Panton Mira-X Set Circle tablecloth and placemats in rainbow colours 1970s

Purchased in Denmark and offered for sale as a combined set of three pieces, this circular tablecloth and two placemats were made in the 1970s from fabric in Verner Panton's seminal Circles range of 1971 which was produced by Mira-X in a rainbow spectrum of eight vivid colours: orange, bright red, dark red, aubergine, purple, violet, blue and turquoise. The tablecloth, with a diameter of 120 cm in one direction and 112 cm in the other, is slightly oval in shape rather than a precise circle. Likewise the placemats have diameters of 32 cm one way and 29 cm the other. The pieces show minor signs of historical use including a couple of pinholes (see photos).
