Dating from the early 1960's when Ege Rya was using a pure wool backing for its rya rugs (they changed to jute/polyester backings in the mid 60's), this vibrantly colourful pure wool shag pile rug features an abstract and swirlingly psychedelic design reminiscent of Edvard Munch's The Scream. The colours are rich and strong with no fading, and span a spectrum of warm reds from bright orange through to burgundy. The rug measures approximately 135 x 200cm (53 x 79 inches) and is in very good condition overall, with two small areas of wear (see images) – one at the bottom left corner of the rug (as viewed in the whole-rug images), and the other around 50cm up the left side from that corner.
