Spherical cast-iron candleholder by C&C Holmgren for Illums Bolighus in 1973

A vintage cast-iron candleholder designed and produced in 1973 for Illums Bolighus by Christel & Christer Holmgren, aka C&C Holmgren, best known for the work they did for Holmegaard glassworks in the late 60s and early 70s. Formed of two hemispheres that slot together with two anchoring pins, the candleholder has a diameter of 12.5cm (5 inches) and is very substantial, weighing around 1.4kg (3lbs). The top half is simply lifted off the anchoring pins to replace the candle, which can a be tealight or a standard long candle – the base of the holder has three concentric candle receptacles measuring approximately 2, 3 and 4cm diameter respectively.
